The Rajasthan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, has approved the draft Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code Bill, 2026. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel announced the decision after the Cabinet meeting, placing the proposed legislation on the state's formal policy agenda.
The draft seeks common provisions across Rajasthan for marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance and live-in relationships. The Cabinet has kept the rituals and customs of tribal communities outside the proposed law's scope, an exclusion that will be central to scrutiny when the text enters the legislative process.
The meeting also approved plans for a Rajasthan Tree Protection Bill, 2026. The proposal introduces stronger provisions against illegal and indiscriminate tree felling and places 29 species, including Khejri, Rohida and Peepal, in a protected category as part of the state's effort to limit desertification and expand green cover.
