Industry Minister Tapas Roy and Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Pal visited the scene, questioning the hotel's safety measures and licensing process.
Fire Services Minister Kaushik Chowdhury has advised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on the incident, with forensic experts scheduled to examine the site today.
The fire broke out on the third floor of a five-story building near a fire station, and four fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
Local sources indicate that many of the victims were from other states and foreign countries seeking medical treatment in Kolkata.
