JSW Group has put its proposed battery manufacturing plant in Odisha on hold due to technology constraints, specifically the limited availability of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology.
Director of JSW MG Motor India and Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, Parth Jindal, stated that the company has not yet secured a technology tie-up for LFP battery cells, which is a key challenge for the group.
Jindal emphasized that the LFP technology is currently guarded by Chinese manufacturers, who are not sharing this technology widely.
The company has already established a cell-to-pack assembly line for battery energy storage applications and another facility for JSW MG Motor India.
JSW Group had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Odisha government in February 2024 to establish an integrated electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility in the state with a proposed investment of ₹40,000 crore.
