In Puducherry has opened a month-long set of help counters for people who need assistance creating an Ayushman Bharat Health Account or registering for eligible Ayushman Bharat cards. The hospital's Freedom from Illness campaign runs from July 16 to August 15 and is open to patients, attendants and members of the public.
The counters operate daily from 6.30 am to 4 pm at multiple points on the hospital campus. Trained staff will check the documents presented, verify eligibility where a scheme requires it and guide applicants through the digital process. Says the registration support is being provided without a fee.
The services should not be confused with one another. An ABHA is a digital health account and identifier intended to help a person link and manage health records with consent. Creating an ABHA does not by itself grant insurance cover. Benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or the Ayushman Vay Vandana card depend on the eligibility rules of those programmes.
Assisted registration can be useful for people who do not have a suitable device, are unfamiliar with online identity checks or face difficulty resolving a mismatch in their details. Locating the counters inside a major public hospital also allows families already seeking care to complete the process with staff support instead of depending on an informal intermediary.
Applicants should carry the identification and supporting records requested by the relevant scheme and should confirm at the counter which card they qualify for. They should also review the mobile number and demographic details entered before registration is completed, because errors can later complicate access to a digital record or benefit.
The campaign's practical success will be reflected in valid registrations rather than raw footfall. Clear eligibility advice, protection of personal information and a process for correcting rejected or inaccurate applications are important safeguards.
