Indian naval ships INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti left Ho Chi Minh City on 24 June after completing a port call focused on professional engagement with Vietnam and maritime cooperation.

The ships were deployed under Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. After leaving Vietnam, they continued their deployment in the South-East Asia region.

During the visit, the fleet commander met senior representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Vietnam People's Navy. Their discussions covered maritime cooperation, professional collaboration and regional maritime security.

Personnel from the two navies also took part in professional interactions and bilateral exercises. These activities allowed them to exchange operational experience and reinforce their stated commitment to maritime security and safe sea lanes.

Rear Admiral Ananda and the commanding officers of INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti laid a wreath at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh. The programme combined formal calls and commemorative events with operational engagement between naval personnel.

A joint yoga session was held on board INS Kavaratti to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga. The Indian ambassador to Vietnam was also hosted on INS Udaygiri along with representatives of the Vietnam People's Navy, members of the diplomatic community and other guests.

The port call forms part of the Eastern Fleet's regional deployment rather than a standalone exercise. Its practical elements included ship visits, discussions and professional activity intended to maintain working-level contact between the two navies as they operate in a strategically important maritime region.

No new defence agreement was announced in the release; the visit was presented as an operational and diplomatic engagement during a wider regional deployment.
